Whole Wheat is good for dogs. There's a common misconception that dog's do not have the GI tract to break down grains. However, whole grains are a great part of a balance diet for a dog. It has fibers and protein that are good for their health. It should not be the majority of food they eat. For example, skip kibbles and foods with grains as their main ingredient.
In my recipes, I often use white whole wheat to give a lighter color to the treats. White Whole Wheat has essentially the same nutrients as Whole Wheat but with slightly less gluten and protein content.
Although flour cannot "expire", they can start losing their nutrient content and rise. Whole Wheat Flour has lower shelf life than regular flour. A storage tip is to pour the wheat into an air tight container and store in your refrigerator.
