ABOUT For The Love of Pooch:

Hello & welcome to For the Love of Pooch! This blog is created by Erica.
In the Fall of 2010, I had just gotten my pup Mochi from the Town Lake Animal Center in Austin, TX. Around the same time, my good friend Felicia also got a pup named Leo. Leo and Mochi became instant friends and the perfect excuse for Felicia and I to hang out more often. Felicia's dad owns a doggy day care in Dallas, TX who has a friend that owns a doggy bakery. Felicia shared a recipe with me that she got from the doggy bakery owner.

It was so much fun making treats for our pups together and a great way to make sure our dogs were getting the nutrients and diet to live a healthy and happy life. As someone who loves baking, it made so much sense to bake for my pup as well!

As my interest for baking grew, I created this blog to share the love with other fellow doggy lovers so that their pup can have healthy, delicious, home-baked treats.

ABOUT the Ingredients:

I've done quite a bit of research on what ingredients are good for dogs. Some common ingredients used in the recipes on this blog are:

  • Baby Foodcaution: when purchasing baby food, read the ingredients carefully. Onion/garlic is toxic to dogs and some baby food contain onion powder. Most meat baby food contain onion powder. I only purchase fruit/veggie baby food
  • Eggs
  • Fruit  *caution: if feeding fresh, remove pits, seeds, stems/leaves
  • Meat
  • Oatmeal
  • Veggies
  • Whole Wheat Flour
  • Yogurt
These foods are good for dogs in moderation so they are perfect for treats! These are not substitutes for your pup's regular diet.

Foods to Avoid:
  • Onions (all forms: raw, dehydrated, power)
  • Garlic
  • Grapes/Raisins
  • Chocolate
  • Avocado
  • Coffee/Tea
  • Raw eggs, meat, and fish
  • Salt
  • Fatty meat/bones
  • Mushrooms
